ABOUT ABOUT

Presented by Parker Poe Charitable Trust, Pebble Hill Plantation is excited to bring the Pebble Hill Polo Classic to the Red Hills region to honor the memory of Mrs. Elisabeth Ireland Poe. This charity event benefits Pebble Hill’s Preservation Fund with proceeds dedicated to the continued care, maintenance, and restoration of the historic 3,000 acre estate and its more than 60 structures. Join us for this exciting event featuring a polo match, children’s activities, music, fine food and spirits, all with the time-honored tradition of “Stomping of the Divots”.

Elisabeth “Pansy” Ireland Poe was was a pioneer for women in the sport of polo. As a young woman in her 20s, Pansy registered under her initials with the United States Polo Association and played on men’s teams. At the time, women were not allowed membership in the USPA and when her ruse was discovered, she was unceremoniously stripped of her USPA membership and her handicap. Women were denied membership until 1973. Pansy died in 1978.  In honor of Miss Pansy, the players in the Pebble Hill Polo Classic will all be women.

General admission pass holders will enjoy access to the Grounds, live music, free children's activities, the time-honored tradition of "Stomping of the Divots", and a variety of food and beverage options available for purchase.  A limited number of bleacher seats are available on a first come, first served basis. Please feel free to bring blankets and chairs to enjoy the match!

THE EVENT WILL BE HELD RAIN OR SHINE.  Gates close at 5:00 p.m.
