Pebble Hill Plantation Learning Center
Have you ever wondered what it takes to paint a bird like the famous artists John James Audubon or Roger Tory Peterson? Here’s your chance to learn from one of Thomasville’s own expert artists! Children ages 8 – 13 are invited to join wildlife artist and educator Ron Thomson at Pebble Hill Plantation’s Learning Center for an in depth look at how to paint one of our region’s most renowned birds – the Northern Bobwhite Quail.
Each student will learn the natural history of this bird and what makes it special to Pebble Hill and our region. Ron will then teach the technique of sketching the detailed characteristics of the bobwhite quail before finishing the piece with acrylic paint.
After the completion of this class, the student’s artwork will be on display in the Pebble Hill Plantation Learning Center from February 22 – March 1, 2020. All of the paintings will then be submitted to the Georgia Youth Birding Competition T-shirt Art Contest sponsored by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources where prizes and awards are given to winners in four grade-level divisions. The grand prize artwork will be showcased on the 2020 Georgia Youth Birding Competition T-shirt presented on April 25. All artwork will be returned to class participants after this date.
