ABOUT ABOUT

We are excited to offer this unique educational experience with Native American expert Ben Kirkland. Kirkland was with Chehaw Park in Albany, Georgia for 34 years where he served as their Nature Resources Manager.  He was the 2019 winner of the Jim Fowler Environmental Award for outstanding service and committment to preserving the natural world. He also served as organizer of the Native American Festival, Frontier Festival, and Traditional Skills Gathering at Chehaw Park.  Widely considered to be this region's preeminent expert on Native American culture, Kirkland will demonstrate flint-knapping, fire-making, and many other primitive skills. For an additional fee, a limited number of tickets to view the Native American artifacts collection in the "Indian Room" of the Musuem are available as an addition to this program.
