ABOUT ABOUT

All levels welcome, beginners to advanced.

Have you ever visited a museum or gallery and browsed through an entire collection in minutes? Do you find yourself remembering very little about specific items, even ones you admired? Do you want to get more out of traveling and visiting different venues?

Join Ron Thomson for an intimate workshop to learn how to get the most from your gallery visits through drawing and observation. Ron will lead the class through the galleries for inspiration from the exceptional exhibition, “Identity & Restraint: Art of the Dog Collar,” now on display at Elisabeth Ireland Poe Gallery at Pebble Hill Plantation.

Ron will guide participants through the gallery to learn the art of slowing down and becoming more intentional about capturing the elements of an artifact we admire! You'll learn what questions to ask during the observation process, how to apply drawing skills using essential travel sketching materials, and how to achieve a more fulfilling experience when visiting museums and galleries close and far.

In this workshop, you will:

1. Identify the essential travel sketching materials

2. Learn how to apply observation techniques through the inquiry process

3. Demonstrate and apply drawing techniques to capture light and shadow on main forms

4. Learn the value and how to document the experience

All levels welcome, beginners to advanced.

*Ticket includes all supplies and materials for participants to take home after the workshop: Sketch pad, kneaded eraser, white China marker, mechanical sketch pencil with lead, white gel pen, portable gallery sketch board, reference sheet.

**This workshop must meet required minimum class size or the workshop will be cancelled. Registrants will be refunded in the event the workshop is cancelled.
